The Devil Wrote Nada

so there I was in the movie theater last night...after suffering through 35 minutes of advertising and promos for some fairly horrible movies, the lights finally dimmed...I really wanted to like The Devil Wears Prada 2...I had some high hopes...not only had all the major, and minor, actors returned...but so had the director...and writer...and the writer is the most important part of this blog...the thorn in my side...this sequel...so many years after the original...where everyone can quote lines ad nauseum...takes place in a world that is much different than twenty years ago...much crueler to writers, and creatives...the undertone of the sequel could have been the real tone of this movie...but that would be a drama not a comedy...there is nothing funny about the decimation of the written word and where you can find it...magazines, newspapers...all fading...books...written with the help of AI...by AI...the continuing dumbing down of society...but the movies...well...there is a strong argument for escapism and entertainment...but the snappy, witty dialogue fueled by the cast in the original...was just regurgitated laziness in this sequel...it was a paint by numbers redo...identical music...plot arch...wrapped in a dazzling display of fashion, scenery and color...I wondered while watching...waiting for something better to emerge...who was giving feedback to this script?...why was no one ready?...what would Andy Sachs say about this?...would Miranda grin or purse her lips?...maybe the script doctor was at a hideous skirt convention...as a writer I hate wasted potential...thinking of how many writers would have killed for that job...sigh...that's all...
